Celebrate Recovery Month 2024

15th Annual Observance of Recovery Month

Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to promote and support new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the nation’s strong and proud recovery community, and the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery in all its forms possible.

The Cayman Islands is celebrating its 15th annual observance of Recovery Month. Caribbean Haven Residential Centre (CHRC) is leading the charge, reminding the people of the Cayman Islands that recovery is not easy, but it is possible.

The message CHRC would like to get out to the Cayman Islands this year is that it’s okay to reach out for help with substance use and mental health conditions, especially if your day-to-day life, work, and relationships are being affected. The Department of Counselling Services (DCS), of which CHRC is a part, offers a variety of services at no cost to individuals, including community—based counselling, residential treatment, and parenting programme.

Additionally, people in recovery may note that finding purpose can keep them motivated in their recovery. This may include meaningful daily activities such as a job, school, volunteering, or creative pursuits. Connecting with treatment providers on island can be the first step towards finding purpose.

The community can support the Recovery Month initiative by providing caring support to those in recovery or seeking recovery. The truth is, recovery is easier with the support of others – we do not recovery alone. Community can include family, friends, co-workers, peers – anyone an individual interacts with. As a main feature of addiction is disconnection, by connecting with others who encourage them to grow, people can make strides towards managing their addiction.

We will be sharing more about recovery and our services on Radio Cayman on September 4 at 1pm and September 6 at 9am. You can support our residents at CHRC at our supply drive at Cost.U.Less on Saturday September 21 from 10am-3pm. If you are in recovery, join us at our Family Fun Day at the Cayman Turtle Centre on September 28 at 10am (pre-registration is required, please call 949-8789). Join us in celebrating Recovery Month this year!
